Venstre hånd
This picture began with a fascination for the hand as expression. Not as a symbol in the classical sense, but as something more direct — something bodily, almost uncomfortably close. Is it a gesture? A signal? Or just a fragment that refuses to explain itself?
I have been preoccupied with how the body can carry meaning without a face, without context. The hand is personal and anonymous at the same time. It reaches out, but not necessarily towards anything specific. Perhaps more into a state. An inner pressure that has to escape.
The colour is deliberately intense, almost artificial. It pulls the subject away from the realistic and into a more psychological space, as I often do in my figurative paintings. It is in this span — between the concrete and the dissolved — that the picture finds its energy.
This figurative painting belongs to Norwegian contemporary art and is an original painting for sale. The work is aimed at collectors of figurative art with an interest in the body, fragmentation and visual tension.
The painting is by Trond Berg-Nilssen.
